What do I need to do to become a rabbi?
A.   MJTI does not currently ordain rabbis but we offer courses necessary for ordination by the Union of Messianic Jewish Congregations (UMJC). These consist of online Jewish Studies courses, special rabbinical training courses offered at UMJC conferences in various locations in the United States, and rabbinical intensive seminars in Los Angeles and Jerusalem.

For those interested in rabbinical training, we offer a special Portfolio Course taught by Rabbi Rich Nichol. This course, which is given over three academic quarters, will help you evaluate your preparedness for rabbinical training and also offer a wealth of information about the life of a rabbi. This course is free for anyone who is enrolled in at least one online School of Jewish Studies course for each of those three quarters.

I work all day. Can I still take your online courses?
A.   The online "classroom" is an excellent environment for those who require a flexible learning schedule. Learning in their own environment, students have time to digest ideas and process their responses on a level not usually found in a traditional classroom setting.

Must the courses be taken in a particular order?
A.   While some of the core courses have prerequisite classroom work or the instructor's permission, most courses may be taken in any order, according to the schedule of SJS offerings.

A.   The School of Jewish Studies admits students of any race, gender, color, nationality or ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs and activities generally accorded or made available to students of the school. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, gender, color, nationality or ethnic origin in the administration of its educational policies and programs. How long does it take to complete the SJS Master of Jewish Studies degree?
A.   While there is no limit to the amount of time a student may take to complete their degree program, students in the MJS degree program must complete at least one course, taken for credit, per academic year, in order to retain their status as SJS students.
